Dog Behavior

Dogs are very well known for their selfless love, companionship and devotion towards their owners but they fail when it comes to learning adequate manners that befits a human household. Training and solving dog's behavior problems needs a long time and patience. A dog that barks is not always a nuisance and his barking can only be a tool that the dog uses to interact with his owner. Dogs showing aggressive behavior like growling, baring teeth, biting, snarling and snapping can also be used to express some particular sentiments.

Sometimes, the dog makes a wrong perception of a person's friendly intentions as threatening or intimidating. As a result, they show signs of irritability and aggressive behavior. Whenever a dominant dogs sees a challenge to its status in the family hierarchy, physical restraints such as collaring the dog and hugging, it shows aggression. Sometimes, the dog fears of being harmed and this triggeres the aggressive behavior in dogs. Like when raising an arm to throw a ball may be perceived as an offending attack to the dog and this may result in a dog bite.

Aggressive behavior in dogs may also be precipitated when the dog tries to be defensiveness of his property. Protectiveness and possessive tendencies towards the owner may also result in aggressive behavior of the dogs. If somebody provokes the dog whom the dog cannot attack, he may redirect his aggression to someone more accessible. Sometimes, predatory tendencies present in a dog makes him aggressive whenever he is angry. These tendencies differ with breeds. While some dogs try to bite with the slightest stimulation, some show their aggression by threatning but rarely ever bite. There are behavior modification techniques that can raise the threshold of patience and improve the overall temperament of the dog. Some of these include medical check-up of the dog by a good veterinarian to rule out medical causes for the aggressive behavior. Help from an animal behavior specialist might be of help too.

The dog's safety along with the other occupants of the house should be checked out. While walking with your dog in the public might require a cage-type muzzle. Some of the dogs soon learn to take them off though. The dogs should be neutered if so desired, these dogs are found to be more submissive and placid in nature. Dogs should not be physically punished as it may only motivated fear, worsening the problem and thus, may not be spared. If a constantly barking dog is brought in the quiet neighbourhood, it often becomes a nuisance. Constant barking of the dog may be due to its boredom and loneliness and can be reduced if you walk the dog at least twice daily. Its required to play with the dog for sometime such as 'Fetch the ball' so as to keep him mentally and physically pre-occupied. Its necessary to keep your dog busy with interesting toys. The dog needs to be petted and groomed and this makes the dog feel loved too.
