Dog Food and Dog Diet
The diet that the dog takes decides a lot of factors. Correct diet keeps your dog fit and fine and their coats shiny and smooth and boosts his immune system. The owners take pride in owning a healthy dog. Feeding the dog with the most expensive dog food does not necessarily mean that the dog will be 100% OK. Deficiencies in nourishment may still creep in or the dog may get obese and may need weight control. Here are some important things to be kept in mind while feeding your dog:
- It is a common myth that milk is a balanced diet for dog or for that matter should be taken as a substitute for water. On the contarary over consumption of milk may even cause diarrhea.
- Consumption of raw eggs make biotin unavailable for dog's body and thus its consistent use may cause dermatitis, loss of hair, and poor growth in your canine pet.
- There are certain species of raw fish that may cause deficiency of vitamin thiamine in dog's body resulting in loss of appetite, abnormal posture, weakness, seizures and even death.
- Table scraps are not enough for you canine companion and should only be fed as 10 percent of the canine's daily diet.
- Meat is good for dogs but it is not balanced in nutrition too. Raw meat may cause infections while cooked meats can be high in fat content. Raw liver fed daily, even with balanced and complete diet, can cause toxicity of vitamin A in dogs.
- Giving small soft bones may choke the dog like a splinter.
- If the dog takes complete and balanced food regularly, it eliminates the need for taking supplements. If the dog gets insufficient exercise, is fed on table scraps or is faced with stressful changes in routine, then only special nutritional needs occur.
- A sycophant dog is hard to refuse but overeating may lead to various complications like obesity and depression in dogs.The dog should be feed at regular intervals and scheduled timings and fed enough only to keep it in good body condition.
- The dog's diet should be regulated keeping in mind the amount of treats given to it as rewards so as to keep the static calorie balance.
- There are commercial dog foods available in the market which normally pack in as complete and balanced pet foods to provide optimum nutrition for our dogs.The dog needs additional calcium. This is also preferable in the diet of pregnant and nursing females and growing puppies and kittens.
- One important thing to remember is that chocolates are toxic to dogs.
